Laura Isaaz

In her own words, she is a Parisian born and bred in the Basque Country. She became a mother young, at 23, the age at which she resumed her studies. She began an internship at ELLE and stayed there for six years as a fashion and beauty journalist. Last year, she decided to leave the magazine and go freelance, keen to forge her own path and have more freedom, both from an editorial and personal point of view. Today, she writes for various brands and continues to do some journalism, but above all, she works on artistic projects that stimulate her. She also launched Maag, her blog on which she talks about her emotions, her anger, her tastes with a bit of humor and a few swear words too.

All women have faced a struggle at one time or another. What was the most important (or exciting) challenge in your life?

I think it was when I went back to school when my daughter was ten months old. I realized one day that it was important for me, but also for her, that I be independent and make something exciting out of my life. It wasn't easy because when my friends from school went out for beers at the end of the day, I would run to pick Romy up from daycare and I couldn't start working on my lessons until after 10 p.m. I thought I was going to give up several times, but I kept going and that's something I'm very proud of today.

When do you feel you are showing strength? (It's quite nice here that you define what strength ultimately means to you)

Every day, definitely. Like many single mothers who get up every morning with the desire to succeed in their careers but also to offer their children the best possible education.

Women are made of light and shadow in turn, echoing the moon that rules us. What is your part of light, what is your part of shadow?

Difficult question. My part of light certainly lies in the fact that I am someone capable of loving deeply. I have chosen the people around me with care, they are not many but they are precious and in contact with them I become sunny. I love to love and I have infinite faith in life. My part of darkness I leave buried as much as I can but, like everyone, I have experienced some very difficult things that have made me the person I am today. Pain can be constructive and I force myself to take the shadow to make light of it…

Express your most important conviction, the motto that guides your steps in life.

You just have to believe in it very strongly...

Mind upload. It's the starting point for our heroine Alyh's story (revealed with the opening of our first store in early October). She uploads her mind into a digital universe in which she evolves and surpasses herself. What skills would you develop if this adventure were offered to you? (Which should be the case in 2040.)

Succeeding in understanding people and being in control of my anxieties.

What if you had the power to change the course of things? How would you redefine our future, yours? Would you use that power elsewhere?

No. I think the beauty of life is having a path and making choices that are most faithful to who we are so as not to make the wrong one. It would make me very anxious to be able to control my future.

Never give up on... What would you say to your daughter?

Your freedom.

The best: what are you most proud of in your career?

The creation of Maag in September 2019.
