MEETING: DELPHINE, DIRECTOR OF PERFUME CREATION, FOR MAISON GUERLAIN

STATEMENT cultivates its difference in the choice of materials and the expression of a strong and symbolic aesthetic. It is this singularity that our clients like Delphine, Creative Director of Perfumes for Maison GUERLAIN, seek. A graduate of a fashion school, Delphine discovered perfumery through her final year project: imagining a collection, which she wanted to be highly sensory, around cashmere and linen. A project during which she therefore brought her personal touch and awakened the senses of the jury by olfactorily expressing the scent of these two materials. A decisive experience that guided her towards perfumery. Independent and creative, the one for whom audacity pays, advocates in her profession as in her appearance, a refined elegance counterbalanced by more modern and rock notes. She subtly integrates them through her STATEMENT pieces, like an ode to her individuality and the freedom to show herself as she is. It is during a journey to the heart of the olfactory universe of GUERLAIN with its woody, amber, musky, gourmand, but also floral and spicy scents, that Delphine shows us the connection she has with her STATEMENT jewelry.

How did you hear about STATEMENT?

I walked past the shop, intrigued, but didn't go in. I'll always remember it; I loved the universe, I thought it was brilliant. Around the same time, I read something about Amélie that really struck me: the fact that STATEMENT jewelry is worn like armor, not an adornment. That, and the conversation around money, linked to femininity and the moon. It really touched me.

Which STATEMENT piece(s) are you wearing?

I'm wearing 3 pieces: my MY WAY in fully paved silver , the small STAIRWAY hoop in paved silver, and the ROCKAWAY cross necklace in silver and paved too. This is my most recent piece, but I'm already planning to complete my collection with the ANYWAY bracelet in silver and white diamonds, a large earring, and why not a yellow gold piece!

How do you feel different when you wear this jewelry?

STATEMENT pieces have a very rock side, which I also have in me. We women always try to be wise, calm and kind, to be good mothers, to do things the best way possible all the time... That's what we were taught. But we also have a wilder side! And STATEMENT allows me to reveal this aspect of my personality. It's great to be able to do it through my jewelry, to embrace this rock side with elegance. What also particularly touches me as a woman is when STATEMENT talks about armor rather than adornment. It corresponds much more to today's women. The principle of adorning oneself with jewelry, for me, no longer has the same resonance at all. It's really jewelry for oneself, to express one's individuality. I like this idea of having pieces that bring luck, and that go beyond the mechanism of a gift from a man to a woman. I find it extremely liberating.

How do they evolve over time?

I take very little care of them, but they haven't moved, they haven't tarnished. My MY WAY, especially, is still as bright as ever. I don't like to take off my jewelry; it's with me every day.

What is your favorite piece and why?

I fell in love with the MY WAY, it's magnificent. I wear it every day, I feel like it's made for me. I've never had such an attachment to any other piece of jewelry. This can perhaps be partly explained by the fact that I bought it after the death of my grandmother, to whom I was very close. It reminds me of the special bond I had with her. What I find really strong is that you can feel the art deco side, and at the same time it's so modern! This gives it something reassuring because, like all symbols of the past, it's not totally unknown. There's something familiar, while being something totally innovative. It's the same with perfumes; you can't create UFOs that don't connect to anything. It's great to innovate, but you need elements to connect to. This is what will create emotion, create a link with a memory.
